Egg freezing in UAE – what you need to know

Egg freezing in UAE - what you need to know

Since legal reforms in 2021, women based in the United Arab Emirates have become increasingly empowered to make decisions about their own fertility.

Prior to the new legislation, egg freezing in UAE was not permitted but it is now possible for women, including those who are single, to freeze eggs for both social and medical reasons. Social reasons may include the desire to delay starting a family until a woman feels that she is in a stable enough situation financially, career-wise or relationship-wise. The NOW-fertility clinical team recommend considering egg freezing for medical reasons for women  diagnosed with cancer needing treatment that may compromise their fertility potential, those with a genetic disease that could affect their ovarian reserve, those with a known poor ovarian reserve and decreased number of eggs, or women with endometriosis requiring surgical treatment for this.

Improved techniques for the freezing and thawing of eggs mean that the chances now of having viable eggs available to use for potential pregnancies in the future are much greater now than when egg freezing was first pioneered. In line with trends worldwide for increasing numbers of women choosing fertility preservation, IVF clinics in the UAE have seen similar rises over the past couple of years.
