IVF with donor sperm is recommended for heterosexual couples with severe male factor infertility, for single women and for lesbian couples.
Sperm donors may be known or unknown to the recipients, and an unknown donor may be anonymous or identified, depending on the legislation in the country where the treatment is taking place. In the UK, for example, sperm donation is no longer anonymous since a change in the legislation in 2005.
At NOW-fertility we offer IVF with donor sperm treatment through established sperm donation programmes at our partner fertility clinics or with sperm sourced from a licensed sperm bank.
You’ll first of all have a consultation with one of our fertility consultants, and if it is identified that IVF with donor sperm is the best or most appropriate option for you, you’ll then meet with your fertility nurse and complete a characteristics profile form so that our team can match you with a suitable donor through the donation programme at your chosen clinic.
Alternatively, if you prefer to purchase sperm from a licensed sperm bank, we can help you to arrange safe and reliable shipping to the clinic through our partner specialist couriers.
We will also arrange for you to meet with one of our experienced fertility counsellors to ensure that you fully understand the implications of treatment with donor sperm.
All consultations are carried out virtually for maximum convenience.
Once you are ready to start your treatment cycle, the hormone treatment to stimulate the ovaries will begin. The monitoring during the cycle can take place close to home and you will only need to travel to your chosen clinic once you are ready for egg collection.
The eggs that are retrieved will be fertilised using the donated sperm with embryos either transferred back several days later in a fresh cycle, or frozen for use in the future.
