Patient Story IVF as a single woman using donor sperm
Kourtney, 26, from Germany, single
Kourtney, USA born and living in Germany, enquired about IVF as a single woman and so was advised to undergo treatment at our partner clinic in London.
She purchased donor sperm from a licenced sperm bank and this was shipped to the UK clinic. She started the medications delivered from our partner pharmacy while in Germany where she also underwent the monitoring for the cycle.

Kourtney travelled to the UK for the egg collection and subsequent embryo transfer. Between the procedures, she took the opportunity to enjoy the vibrant and culturally-rich city of London.
Only two weeks later she was delighted to have a positive pregnancy test.
"Very timely responses and I felt like my nurse coordinator truly cared about my care. My questions were welcomed and promptly answered."

Choosing IVF alone: a real life perspective

“What does IVF as a single woman really look like, in your view?”

Mel Johnson
The reality is, it’s not one single story — it’s a collection of completely unique journeys, each with its own twists and turns.
For some, it begins with a moment of clarity — not wanting to miss out and realising: “I don’t need to wait for the perfect partner to become a mum.”
For others, it’s a leap of courage after years of dreaming and doubting — a moment of letting go of how they once imagined becoming a parent, and embracing a new path forward.
And for some women, it’s simply always been the plan — the vision of motherhood never tied to finding a partner, but to creating family on their own terms.
The process itself, like for anyone, can be a rollercoaster — early mornings at the clinic, the nervous pause before self-injecting, the anxious wait for results. There can be setbacks, there can be breakthroughs, and every journey is different.
What unites solo mums is the strength to walk a different path — and the belief that it will lead exactly where they’re meant to be.
Because doing it solo is not the same as doing it alone. It means choosing parenthood without a romantic partner — but hopefully you’ll have a whole tribe of support, cheering you on every step of the way.
PCOS Awareness Month
How to get pregnant with PCOS – Nutrition & Lifestyle Tips
Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is one of the most common hormonal conditions in women and a leading cause of fertility struggles. It can bring irregular cycles, confusing test results, and the frustration of not knowing when (or if) you’re ovulating. PCOS affects fertility by disrupting normal ovulation through hormone imbalances and insulin resistance—around 70–80% of women with PCOS experience this, which can raise blood sugar, increase testosterone, and make conception more difficult.
The good news? Nutrition and lifestyle shifts can make a real difference. A PCOS-friendly diet focuses on balancing blood sugar with vegetables, fibre, protein, healthy fats, herbs, spices, and even spearmint tea, while limiting sugar, refined carbs, low-fat dairy, artificial sweeteners, alcohol, gluten, and caffeine.
Lifestyle changes like stress management, quality sleep, and balanced movement also support hormone health. With the right steps, you can improve ovulation, egg quality, and your chances of conceiving naturally.

How is Male Infertility Diagnosed?
Dr Riadh Ben Temime, Consultant in Reproductive Medicine & Infertility in conversation with Ian Stones, co-director & co-founder testhim

Male infertility is a complex condition that requires careful evaluation by a specialist. While a semen analysis is often the first step, it is only a screening tool and cannot provide a definitive diagnosis. A comprehensive assessment led by a urologist with expertise in male fertility includes detailed medical history, physical examination, hormone testing, genetic evaluation, and advanced diagnostics when appropriate. This thorough approach ensures that subtle but important causes of infertility are not overlooked. With expert oversight, couples receive an accurate diagnosis and tailored treatment plan, offering the best chance of achieving their family-building goals.
