I am pleased to share the changes in legislation which have just become effective in the UAE allowing unmarried, non-Muslim couples to access IVF treatment, which was previously only available to married couples.
This is a significant change in the legislation which will benefit both the residents of the UAE and those intending to travel to the country for fertility treatment.
Under the new law the freezing of embryos will also be legal, as will surrogacy, although the use of donated eggs or sperm will not be permitted and Muslim couples must still be married to undergo treatment.
I commend the decision made by the rulers as it clearly demonstrates a recognition of the importance of meeting the needs of those wanting a family.
