What is fertility medicine?

NOW-fertility Founder & President Luciano Nardo recently spoke with Dr Wafaa Faysal, host of @medcare.podcast, on a series of fertility-related topics. Here they discuss what is meant by fertility medicine?

WF: What is fertility medicine, what do we want people to understand when it comes to fertility medicine and fertility services?

LN: So we need to make a clear distinction between fertility and infertility. Fertility is the ability to reproduce, so when we talk about fertility medicine we refer to the part of science to investigate the fertility potential of men and women. Instead when we talk about infertility we talk about an area of medicine where we deal with individuals or couples that are unable to conceive.

Today we are addressing the topic of fertility medicine which will contain mostly the information surrounding the ability that women and men have when it comes to reproduce themselves. The percentage of individuals that cannot conceive is increasing. It is increasing because of many confounding factors, some are related to the environment, some related to chronological age (more for women than for men), some related to some infections and also perhaps the evidence that some individuals are not as healthy as they could be when they approach the time to conceive.
