What lifestyle interventions are recommended after 40?
For women over 40, interventions must move beyond general wellness and focus on the specific needs of egg quality and pregnancy preparation. I categorise these into three integrated areas:
Firstly, in terms of nutrition, the goal is to nourish the eggs by eating specifically for oocyte quality and hormonal balance. While many believe they are eating healthily, I find that a majority of clients are significantly under-consuming protein. Learning how to properly fuel your body with the right building blocks is essential for cellular repair. By focusing on blood sugar stability and high-density antioxidant intake, we can improve clinical outcomes by up to 130%. This approach provides the mitochondrial support needed to protect against age-related egg quality decline.
Secondly, for exercise, we prioritise Physical Readiness through a combination of resistance training and fertility yoga. Resistance training is vital for preparing the body for the physical demands of pregnancy, while fertility yoga specifically improves blood flow to the uterus. We move away from high-intensity training that can cause cortisol spikes and instead focus on workouts that build strength without triggering a stress response. This ensures your body feels like a safe, strong host for a successful transfer.
Regarding complementary therapies, we treat stress as a clinical factor. This goes far beyond ‘positive thinking’ and involves setting firm boundaries and intention setting. A technique I have all my clients use is ‘Intention Anchoring’. At the start of each day, you set a singular, present-tense intention for your physical well-being. This acts as a mental reset that keeps you grounded in the present moment rather than lost in the ‘what-ifs’ of the journey.

What is IVF for Embryo Banking?
Multi-cycle IVF for embryo banking involves undergoing several cycles of IVF in relatively short succession, with the aim of freezing all viable embryos created rather than undertaking an embryo transfer straight away. Patients can ‘bank’ embryos for their own use, giving themselves a greater potential for pregnancy.
Who could benefit from IVF for embryo banking?
- Patients with low ovarian reserve
- Patients known to have other factors indicating low chances of IVF success
- Patients with a history of repeated failed cycles of IVF
- Patients opting for IVF with pre-implantation genetic testing (PGT-a) of embryos
- Patients requiring treatment that may affect future fertility potential
Accumulating embryos over several cycles of IVF may be particularly beneficial for patients who are likely to produce lower numbers of viable embryos in a single cycle. It is also an option for those not considering a pregnancy immediately but who would like to preserve their fertility by having embryos available for use in the future.

How Culture Shapes Your IVF Journey -
Whether you see it or not
As a South Indian woman living in Singapore, I see it every single day, the silence, the shame, the self-blame, the suffering happening behind closed doors.
In Asian cultures, a woman’s worth has long been tied to her ability to bear children. So, when that journey becomes complicated, the enormous pressure doesn’t just come from the medical process it comes from everywhere. Family gatherings become a place that makes you feel isolated and anxious. Casual, insensitive comments cut deep and last long. And somehow, it always comes back to her. Her body, her failure, her problem. It surely can’t be his issue?
I know this not just as an IVF coach but as someone who lived it. My mum had four children by the age of 30. She loves me, without question. But when I was going through IVF in my late 30s and 40s, she didn’t always have the words. Sometimes she’d gently suggest I was perhaps getting older and should think about giving up. She didn’t mean to hurt me or let me down. She just didn’t have the tools because nobody ever gave them to her.
And that’s exactly it. This isn’t cruelty for cruelty’s sake, it’s generational. Emotional intelligence around infertility simply wasn’t shown back then, because survival came first and silence and keeping things to yourself felt safer.
But you don’t have to carry this alone. There are people and organisations who truly understand these cultural nuances, pressures and huge expectations who won’t ask you to explain yourself before they hold a safe, non-judgemental space for you. Reach out, because support that really gets it exists. And you truly deserve to find it.
