Egg freezing – what is the optimum age to do it?

Egg freezing - what is the optimum age to do it?

Authors: Dr Antoine Abu Musa, Chief Medical Officer, and Dr Luciano Nardo, Founder & President, NOW-fertility

The optimum age for women to freeze their eggs is generally considered to be between 25-37 years. This is because fertility tends to decline with age, and both the quality and quantity of a woman’s eggs decrease over time. By freezing eggs at a younger age, women can preserve healthier eggs for future use.

There are various reasons why women might preserve their fertility through egg freezing treatment. It may be for medical reasons such as women with cancer requiring chemotherapy and/or pelvic radiation therapy that may affect fertility, having a family history of early menopause, or because of ovarian disease with risk of damage to the ovaries, such as ovarian endometriosis or other types of cyst. Also, some women may choose to postpone parenthood and freeze their eggs for social reasons such as lack of a partner, pursuing higher education, career aspirations, or financial reasons.

If you are considering freezing your eggs for any of these, or for any other reasons, NOW-fertility can help. Contact us to find out more.
